TET HOLIDAY
Tet Nguyen Dan is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. It takes place on the first day of the first month according to Lunar calendar.
Many Vietnamese families prepare for Tet by cleaning the house, decorating Tet tree, buying fruits, sweeties, new clothes and cooking special foods. The foods include Chung cake, a round rice cake, pork pie, and sticky rice that remind Vietnamese people about their root and traditional history.
There are a lot of Tet customs such as visiting a person’s house on the first day of the new-year, ancestor worship, wishing New Year’s greetings, giving lucky money to children and old people, and so on. Tet also is an occasion for people who live far from their hometown reunite with their family. During Tet holiday, people usually spend time to visit their relatives, go to pagoda to pray for good fortune, and enjoy Spring festivals.
Tet is considered the beginning of spring with the warm weather, green budding trees and colorful flowers. It is the most wonderful time in Vietnam so if you come to our country, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy our Tet holiday.
